William E Randall II

William Edward Randall II was born September 20 1926 in Cortland NY and died July 27 2024 at the NYS Veterans Home in Oxford NY.
He was the son of William E & Isabel White Randall. He attended Cortland schools and joined the US Navy on June 19, 1944. He completed basic training at Sampson Naval Training Station, and served in the Armed Guard, then aboard the USS Lake Champlain, an Essex Class Aircraft Carrier, through June of 1946. He received the Victory Medal, European Theater Medal and the American Theater Medal.
Post war, he met and married Iva Hunt on July 28, 1949 in Hunts Corners NY. Residing in the area, they raised their children. He provided for his family as proprietor of the Automotive Center. Bill had many interests, ranging from photography, astronomy, wine making, sailing, antique automobiles and horses. He took the opportunity to pass on his knowledge in many ways. He was a 4-H leader, member of the Board of Directors of Cortland County Cooperative Extension and The Robert P Blatchley 4-H Foundation. He served with Marathon's unit of Auxiliary Police for many years, and was a life member of the VFW. Bill was initially appointed to the Board of Directors of the NYS Veterans Home at Oxford, by Governor George Pataki, a position he held for many years. He was a Trustee of the Hunts Corners Church and past Commodore of the Oneida Lake Sailing Club.
He obtained his Associates Degree from Tompkins Cortland Community College.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Iva, daughter Barbara Randall and grandson Brent Randall, and son-in-law Ralph Pitman, and several siblings.
He is survived by his children, Sally Pitman, William E Randall III & Vicki Lewis, Wendy and Gary Wakula. His grandchildren John & Denise Pitman, Keith & Nancy Pitman, William & Kristin Randall; 9 great grandchildren & 4 great-great grandchildren, his siblings David Brown, Virginia Ackley, & Linda Glover, many cousins, nieces & nephews.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
