Tommaso Silvestri, Sr., 85, of Endicott New York passed away peacefully on July 25, 2024 surrounded by his loved ones. Tom was born in Anara, Italy on July 13, 1939 and immigrated to America with his parents and siblings at the age of 16 on the Santurnia ship that arrived at Ellis Island in late November, 1955. Tom was extremely proud of his heritage and was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Independent Mutual Aid Association, Sons of Italy, Laborers International Union of North America Local 785 and Bac Local 3. He was a hard working man who began earning for himself and family at a young age. Tom started his working life at EJ Shoe Factory and the Pig Stand, and then moved on to a career in construction. He started working locally with Sarkisian Brothers and then nationally with Blount Brothers whose projects took him to Texas, Kentucky, Massachusetts and California. In 1985 he returned to Endicott, NY to be near family and friends and began working for himself buying and remodeling homes, he loved to work with his hands. He also very much enjoyed all of the people he worked with. Tom enjoyed watching sports, especially his home teams, the Jets and the Mets. He loved to cook for his family, his specialties were eggs, potatoes, sausage & toast, homemade spaghetti, homemade sausage, dried prosciutto, greens, fried zucchini flowers and chicken Parmesan. He especially enjoyed making hot peppers and watching family and friends eat them. He loved to garden, he had a green thumb and grew the best garlic, tomatoes and basil, all sorts of vegetables and herbs, and he really loved sharing his harvest with everyone. This always made him smile. Tom loved spending time with family and loved ones most of all. He loved to laugh and entertain everyone with telling stories of the past. Tom was pre deceased by his parents, Vincenzo and Dina Silvestri, his brothers Pierino and Terenzio, his sister-in-law Patricia Silvestri and his cat of 20 years, Meow Meow. He is survived by his partner of close to 40 years, Margaret Jones. He is also survived by his son Tommaso Silvestri, Jr., his wife Shari, their children Josh Croop, Justin and Roxie Croop, their children Kayleigh and Willow, his daughter Maria Wilhelm, her husband Michael, and their children Hannah, Hallie and Aidan, his sister Domenica and Joseph Gennett, their children, David and Roseanne Gennett, their children, Vince and Colleen Gennett, their daughter Fallon, Leanna Stefano, his Godson Anthony Gennett (Megan) and their children Maylynn and Jacob, Domenic Gennett, his niece Amy and Buddy Allen, their children Emma and Joey Renda, Taylor and Lauren Allen, his nephew PJ and Stacey Silvestri, their children Dina, Gianni and Bella, his nephew Rocky and Jen Silvestri, their children Sam and Lilly, his niece Tina Silvestri, her children Bella and Zio, his nephew Greg and Tori Silvestri, their children Harper and Evelyn, Margaret’s children Tim and Debbie Blanchard, their children Jessica, Shawn and Lili McBreen and Christopher and Jesse Olsen, Dan and Dara Blanchard, their children James, Shawn and Jessica and Jacquelyn Blanchard and her grandchildren, Justin and Erin Blanchard, their children Gabriella and Izabella, Deana Blanchard, her children Kelin Edwards, Peyton Roma, Mia Roma, his beloved dog companion Cujo, and several cousins and close friends here and in Italy.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at 11:00 am at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 300 Odell Ave, Endicott, NY, 13760. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 am prior to the services.
