Shirley Hatfield Mills Pixley Obituary

Shirley Hatfield Mills Pixley was born in Chenago Forks, NY to Floyd Hatfield and Mable Hoag on January 21, 1936 and went to be with her Heavenly Father October 12, 2024.

Upon graduation from Greene Central in 1954, Shirley lived at the Army base in Bamberg, Germany for three years with her late husband, Jim. Later they lived in Smithville Flats NY and then Roanoke VA. Having been blessed by reconnecting with and marrying her husband Norm, Shirley moved back to her beloved New York and settled into a their lovely home in Triangle. Shirley loved to garden and made every home a show stopper with her beautiful flower beds. She enjoyed fishing, sewing, basket weaving, bee keeping, and many other various crafts.  Shirley worked most of her life in the banking industry, including her time at Greene Bank.  She was part owner and bookkeeper for Jim's Mobile Service in Greene and later, being the adventurous lady she was, Shirley became a semi-truck driver; she drove across country with both her husband, Jim, and then by herself when he passed.  She was a bold, courageous, person who faced life's challenges head on with God's grace and grit.  Shirley lived for her family and was a wonderful example of a Godly woman, who prayed faithfully and loved to share her faith with others.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Norm Pixley, with whom she happily spent the last 31 years. Shirley has two daughters, Nancy Morris (Joe) and Carol Manning (Jacob), she also held close Norm's three children, Lou Pixley (Wanda), Robert Pixley (Cathie), and Margie Ketzak (Mike).  From this loving and blended family, Shirley was a caring Grandmother to six Grandchildren, Matthew, Logan, Scott, Olivia, Ethan, Robbie and Great Grandmother to Dillon.  Shirley is survived by her Sister, Joyce Wittaker and Sister-in-Law, Pauline Hatfield.  She had very special relationships with her niece, Gayle Rice and her "Honorary Daughter" Cindy Killian.  Shirley was also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends including Rayma Mills.

Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, James (Jim) MIlls, her daughter, Sharon Nicely, her son, Michael Mills and siblings Ruth Lawrence, Roger Hatfield, Robert Hatfield and Clifford Hatfield .

The family would like to say a special thank you to Oxford's New York State Veteran's Home for the love and care they provided her over the last year.

The family requests expressions of sympathy, in her memory, be made to Shirley's beloved church, The First Baptist Church of Port Crane, 38 Canal Street, Port Crane NY 13833.
