R. Scott Kellogg, 72, of Whitney Point, NY, passed away on April 10, 2026. Born on March 19, 1954, in Cortland, NY, Scott was the son of George Kellogg and Sarah Diaz. He grew up primarily in Whitney Point and, following in his father’s footsteps, developed a love of music at an early age. He played bass guitar in his first band while still in high school. He graduated from Whitney Point High School in 1972. After graduation, he went on to work as an independent construction contractor. Throughout his career, he was known as a skilled and conscientious craftsman who took pride in his work, carefully assessing each project, making thoughtful repairs, and completing additions that blended seamlessly with the original structure. In addition to his craftsmanship and musical ability, he created beautiful carvings of deer and elk in mushrooms and on leather. Scott was a man who loved music, a good cowboy hat (often with feathers), and harvesting his own meat through deer and turkey hunting. He especially enjoyed country living and taking Joyce on dates to Lowe’s. Those who knew him will remember his fondness for his horse, Jimmy, his appreciation for John Wayne, and the joy he found in playing music with his dear friends. He had a bigger heart than he often let on, but those who truly knew him understood it well. He is survived by his brother, Byron Kellogg; his nieces, Robyn Kellogg and Stacy Kellogg; his fiancé, Joyce Skobern; her daughters and their families, Betsy and Addison Williams, Amanda and Aaron Castro, and Tania Spencer. He was preceded in death by his father, George Kellogg; his mother, Sarah Diaz; his brother, Raymond Kellogg; and his faithful dog, Maggie. A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 17, 2026 at 11:00am at Taylor Rural Cemetery. Scott lived life his own way, on his own terms, and will be deeply missed by those who knew him best.
