Russell Jackson Obituary

Russell C. Jackson, 91, of Whitney Point, NY passed away peacefully at home on May 5, 2022. He was predeceased by his son Ralph on January 22, 2022.  He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Joyce (Barnes); 3 children, Gerry (Yvonne) Jackson, Marilyn (Jeff) Mason, & Linda Moore; 10 grandchildren, Andy (Melissa) Jackson, Lewis (Bobbi Jo) Jackson, Jeremy (Lisa) Jackson, Robert (Amanda) Jackson, Matthew (Leigh) Jackson, Devon Moore, Cedric (Emilie) Moore, Aaron (Megan) Moore, Tyler Moore & Spencer Moore; 10 great-grandchildren, Andrea, Nathan, Orlando, Courtney, Lauren, Lucas, Kacey, Austin & Jodie Jackson and Hugo Moore. He is also survived by his brother, Roger (Jannette) Jackson and his sister, Carol Shellhammer.

Russ was an extremely hard working man, shortly after he and Joyce were married, he built a house for them to live in and raise their family and he had a variety of jobs throughout his lifetime, from delivering milk to working at IBM to selling Massey Harris & Massey Ferguson tractors and Sno-Jet & Polaris snowmobiles to selling automobiles at a dealership in Marathon and later at Gault Chevrolet in Endicott and becoming a top salesman, he proved to be a successful businessman and eventually he and Joyce took over ownership and operation of her family’s business, Barnes Store, originally in Whitney Point and later in Maine, NY. He also established Barnes Construction, where he operated heavy equipment to complete various jobs for his customers as well as diving into the pool business with both installation of pools and selling pool maintenance supplies. He owned and operated Barnes Construction until the late 1970’s when he semi-retired.

Russ was a kind soul and found great fulfillment in helping people over the years by providing them with private mortgages when they couldn’t get help from the bank.

He loved to travel with Joyce, they visited many countries overseas, and they especially liked to explore the United States by motorhome, they visited all 48 contiguous states plus Alaska.  He and Joyce began spending their winters in Florida during the 1970’s, they built a house in Port Charlotte, and then later, built a house in Punta Gorda and moved there.

He enjoyed spending time with his large family and was proud of the life that he and Joyce had built together. His legacy will live on for years to come.
