Rita Abbott

     Rita Abbott, our beloved Mother and Grandmother,  age 98, of Endicott, NY, formerly of Whitney Point, Charlotte, NC and Lisle, NY, passed away on May 17, 2022, at Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton with her daughters by her side. The family would like to thank the medical staff at Lourdes on 3 Ross for their excellent care. Rita was born on June 22, 1923, in Whitney Point, NY, to Clark and Lina Stowell. She graduated from Whitney Central School. In 1944, she married Harold Abbott. They were married 72 years before he passed away in 2017. Rita was a past member of the Eastern Stars. In her younger years she enjoyed bowling and golfing. In her later years she enjoyed reading, games and puzzles. She excelled in knitting and crocheting. She loved going to Yesteryears in Endwell and family gatherings and dinners. Rita was predeceased by her parents, Clark and Lina, her husband, Harold, and her brother, Boyd.  She is survived by her son James (Anne) and daughters Janice (Larry) and Joyce (Michael), 7 grandchildren, 1 step grandchild, 9 great grandchildren, 4 step great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.  She is also survived by 1 brother-in-law and 2 sisters-in-law and many cherished nieces and nephews. Calling hours with service to follow will be June 11, 2022, at 11:00 at Center Lisle Congregational Church until service time at 12 noon. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church or show a random act of kindness to a stranger or a loved one.
