"Mary Frances (Reardon) Decker, Fran, to her all who knew her, a beloved member of the Whitney Point community, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Fran touched the lives of many with her sharp wit and good works.
Born and raised in upstate New York, Fran carried a deep love for her hometown and its people. She was a cherished daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, great aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and friend. Her home was a place of comfort and laughter, always with an open door, a full cookie jar, and a puzzle on the table.
Fran had a life full of purpose. She was the cherished (her siblings would say spoiled) youngest daughter of Joseph and Dora Belle Reardon and grew up in Endicott, NY. She married Thomas J Decker at 18 and became an army wife and mother in quick succession.
She was a talented painter, an organist, and shop owner of The Thrift Shop and The Tinker Shop. She was active in her St Patrick’s church community, as organist and choir director, a long time member of the hospitality group (the dead spread had better be good for this one, ladies!) and ecumenical quilters. She will be remembered most for her stories, her in depth knowledge of everyone’s business, a quick laugh, and boundless love. She is survived by 7 children, 22 grandchildren, and so many great-grandchildren, we’ve lost count, not really, it is 42 (Welcome Baby Alice). Our Oma will be deeply missed by all.
Calling hours will be held at St Patrick’s church on Friday, October 24, 2025 from 9-10AM, the Celebration of Mass at 10AM. Interment at South Street Cemetery in Triangle, NY immediately following the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to be sent to Good Shepherd Fairview Nursing Home 80 Fairview Ave, Binghamton, NY 13904, or Camp Mark Seven 144 Mohawk Hotel Rd, Old Forge, NY 13420 a children’s camp for the deaf in Old Forge, NY.
