Mary Ellerson Obituary

Mary Ellerson (Brooks), aged 73, peacefully passed away on July 25, 2024.  Born on September 22, 1950, in Johnson City, NY, she was a creative, loving, strong-willed, and witty individual. Mary graduated from Endicott High School and furthered her education at SUNY Broome. She dedicated 14 years of her career as an administrative assistant at IBM, where she was well-respected and valued by her colleagues. She retired from IBM to stay home and raise her family.  As a member of St. Patrick's Church, Mary's faith was an important aspect of her life. Her hobbies included gardening, where she showcased her green thumb, camping, the family camp site at Sandy Pond and spending cherished moments with her family, which brought her immense joy.

Mary's love for her family, children, and the school district proved to be the main focus of her life. Such love allowed her to participate in the Whitney Point PTA, after Prom Party committee, and was a member of the Whitney Point School Board. She enjoyed organizing and participating behind the scenes in many community related activities and organizations. Mary immensely enjoyed bringing joy to others, especially members of the community and her family, but disliked recognition for such devotion.

Mary is survived by her loving husband of 42 Years, Tom Ellerson; her sons, Tom Ellerson (Meghan) and Chris Ellerson (Katherine Loughlin); and her daughter, Anne Ellerson. She was a cherished grandmother to Vivian and Luka. She was predeceased by her parents Alice and Robert Brooks Sr. and her brothers Robert Brooks Jr. and David Brooks (Patricia). She is survived by her nieces( Ashley, Barb, Nikki, Donna, Kristin, and Amy) and nephews (Ben, Dustin, Tyler, Travis & Jeremy) along with her favorite cousins the Cregans and Sullvians.

Mary enjoyed playing games with her family including board games, Wordle (especially with her friend Connie), and her favorite which was Candy Crush where she had a record breaking run of 5 plus years of continuous play.

Mary fought a courageous 4 year battle with cancer.  She used special family events to get through the treatment and difficult surgeries she endured like Tommy and Meghan's wedding at our home, the birth of her granddaughter Vivan and recently the birth of her grandson Luka. A special thanks to family, friends (Monica, Deb, Lisa, Connie, Kathy & Jerry, Susan & Billy, Barb & Bobbie Jo), Broome Oncology at Lourdes, the Guthrie Lourdes Leadership team, all the nursing units at Guthrie Lourdes and her providers who helped her through this battle.
