Louise Marie Barba, 79, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2026 at her home in Whitney Point. Born October 23, 1946, Louise was raised in a proud Italian family with her parents and siblings in Pennsylvania. Making her way to New York, Louise spent time working and keeping herself busy until her husband, Lou knocked on her front door one day. Lou and Louise settled down and grew roots in Whitney Point working a homestead and raising their children Mary, Josh, and Michelle. Mary recalls how dedicated her Mother was to life, “She rose early to see my father off to work everyday. Later she would wake us for school and while we were gone, she would spend time cooking and baking. We would come home to peanut butter cookies, sweet tea, homemade bread, and homemade meals you cannot find anywhere else and it was mostly all from memory!” When Louise was not pouring love into home-cooked meals or gardening, she could be found helping others as a home hospice aid. It seemed to be her calling in life to help those in need regardless of the burdens she herself silently carried. Facing many battles with cancer, Louise fought until her passing. Despite how she was feeling, Louise continued to help others to ensure their needs were met while making countless and selfless sacrifices. “Passing away in her home where she and my father made the most memories is meaningful. I am grateful my mom is finally resting with God. I’m sure she is probably poking around the gardens of heaven and discovering flowers she has never seen before.” Graveside services will be held Friday May 8, 2026, 12 noon at Vestal Hills Memorial Park.
