Keith Jennison Obituary

Keith Allen Jennison, 85, of Marathon, NY died on January 17, 2022 in Johnson City, NY.  Born in the Town of Lapeer on May 27, 1936 to the late Robert Larkin Jennison and Mary Christine (House) Jennison.  Keith was a graduate of Marathon Central School, in the Class of 1954, and was President of the Junior and Senior Class.  He attended Cornell University, Class of 1956.  He entered into a dairy farm partnership with his father for ten years.  They were recognized for outstanding milk production.  Keith was then employed by the United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development Administration.  During his thirty years of employment, he received numerous awards and tributes for his assistance to NYS rural communities.  Upon retirement, he was employed by Lamont Engineering until he moved to Florida in 2009.

Keith was a Director of the local unit of the Dairymen’s League, served as Director of the Marathon Boy Scouts unit, was President and Secretary of the Marathon Lions Club and served as Little League Baseball Commissioner.  Keith and his wife Ruth developed a Drug Awareness program in Marathon Central School in the late 70’s and early 80’s.

Keith was an original Commissioner of the Marathon Joint Fire District and served as Secretary.  He was instrumental in reorganizing the fire services in the Town and Village of Marathon into a Joint District, one of the first in New York State.  He also reorganized the Marathon Emergency Squad into a full-time Emergency Squad to be known as Marathon Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps (MAVAC) and served as President for 8 years.  Upon retiring, he was made an honorary member of the Fire Department and MAVAC.

Keith was Senior Warden of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Marathon.

 

He was predeceased by his loving parents, brothers Carl House Jennison and Donald B Jennison; wife Beatrice D. (Crosby) Jennison, wife Ruth A. (Smith) Jennison, sisters-in-law Betty (Crosby) Betz and Bonnie (Kurtz) Jennison, and son-in-law Ty A. Braman.  He is survived by sons Kenneth A Jennison (wife MaryEllen), James R. Jennison, Robert J. Jennison (wife Sandi), and daughter Karen Ann (Braman) Forkey (husband Charles Forkey Jr.) all of Marathon. Also surviving are brothers-in-law Dale Betz of Florida and William Smith (wife Erin) of California, sisters-in-law Donna Jennison and Donna Smith.  He has 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In keeping with his wishes there will be no calling hours.  A memorial service is being planned in the spring.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to MAVAC PO Box 132 Marathon, NY 13803 or a charity of one's choice.  Arrangements are being handled by Sunset Memorial Services, Whitney Point, NY
