Jean M. Ellis Obituary

It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved
mother, Jean Marie (Nechwedowich) Ellis on June 19, 2026, at the age of 90. She
passed away peacefully surrounded by family after a courageous three-month battle
with breast cancer.

She was born in Itaska as the eldest child of the late Dorothy and Stanley
Nechwedowich.

Jean learned at an early age that she must work hard for the things she wanted in life.
She began babysitting at early age and saved her money to make her own clothes.
She married her high school sweetheart. They shared 60 wonderful years together
before his passing. Over the years, they welcomed many children in their home. She
also hosted several foster children. Their home was always open to those in need. She
spent many years as a homemaker. Her number one priority was always her family.
She was a den mother for Cub Scouts and a leader for the Methodist Youth Fellowship.
Her working career, outside the home, started at the local Whitney Point Post Office as
a part-time clerk. She eventually became a Postmaster, completing her career at the
Glen Aubrey Post Office. She was very proud of her career and the opportunities it
provided. She enjoyed traveling, square dancing and camping and made numerous
lifelong friendships thru these activities. Sewing and quilting were always her passion
and a big part of her life. She was instrumental in creating the Sew-N-Sews thru the
United Methodist Church which she was an active member for 70+ years. They make
dresses for little girls across the world. She had a strong sense of faith and family. She
was the matriarch of her family and will be deeply missed. She was well respected and
loved by all who knew her.

She is survived by her children; Steve Ellis (Laurie), Pam Hundley, Lisa Hand (Rich) and
Lolly Stanley. Grandchildren Brian Ellis (Stephanie), Tyler Ellis (Ashlee), Mike Ellis
(Melisa), James Hundley, Jim Hundley (RaeLynn), Chris Hand (Erica), Matt Hand
(Andrea), Danielle Montesano (Jeremy) and many great-grandchildren who she loved
and adored.

She is also survived by brothers Bill Nechwedowich (Janine), Dan Nechwedowich
(Phyllis), Dave Nechwedowich and brother-in-law John Windsor.

She was predeceased by husband, John Ellis; son, Bill Ellis; son-in-law Jim Hundley
and sister, Mary Lou Windsor.

The family will receive friends Saturday June 27, 2026 from 10am until service time at 11am

at the Whitney Point United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Jean’s
memory to United Methodist Church, 7313 Collins St, Whitney Point, NY 13862 or
Mercy House, 212 N McKinley Ave, Endicott, NY 13760.

Though you are gone, the lessons you taught, the love you taught and the love you
gave will stay with us forever. Forever in our hearts!
