Francis Richard “Dick” Barry passed away Friday November 10 2023 after a long battle with cancer. He was born on March 29 1940 and resided in Marathon, NY his entire life. Dick was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Marguerite Barry. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 61 years, Magdalina; his children Rick (Cindy), Mark (Roxanne), Kevin (Lou) and Maria; 6 grandchildren Nicholas, Tyler, Matthew and Angela (Rick), Anna and Miranda (Maria); 3 great grandchildren Clara, Layla (Miranda) and Reese (Anna); 2 brothers Bob (Sharon) and Ed (Leah) and a sister, Colleen (Ken). Dick worked at Grumman Boats, Smith Corona and retired from Marathon Central School. He was a devoted active member of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Marathon. He loved bowling and sports, especially coaching little league and high school baseball at Marathon Central School. He had a passion for classic cars, car shows, loved Lionel trains and playing the lottery. Dick lived a simple life. He enjoyed mowing and taking care of his yard, loved being outside and talking to people. He would help anyone if asked a favor, even if he was having an off day. His smile and laugh were contagious. The family will receive friends on Monday, November 20, 2023 from 11-12 noon, followed by a noon Memorial Mass at St. Stephen’s Church in Marathon. Burial will follow at the Marathon Cemetery. The family is forever grateful for the care and love that Dick received from the entire staff at Lourdes Cancer Center in Binghamton and Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer center in Buffalo.
