Edwin L. Mapes, Jr.

Edwin L. Mapes, Jr., of Glen Aubrey, New York, passed away at the age of 80 on October 26, 2023.

Edwin was born to Letha Hoover and Edwin Mapes, Sr. on September 14, 1943 in Binghamton, New York. He lived most of his life in the Town of Binghamton before moving to his home in Glen Aubrey. He worked at Crowley, Stow Manufacturing, GAF, and BOCES, retiring from the Binghamton City School District.

Edwin leaves behind his partner of 49 years, Kathleen A. Manzer, his sister, Joann Beavers, his children, Veronica Gober (Hank), Tammy Avery (Bruce), Karen Hawley (Matthew), Melissa Vanvorce (Richard), Julie Shampang (Kenneth), Staci Shoemaker, and Amy Sabo (Shawn), several grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Edwin was predeceased by his mother, Letha Hoover, his father, Edwin Mapes, Sr., and his brother, David Mapes.

Edwin was strong willed and stubborn at times, but he also had an enormous heart and a wonderful sense of humor. He loved being outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time on his land.

A private celebration of life event will be held in Edwin’s memory on May 25th, 2024 at the Glen Aubrey Fire Station.
