Douglas A. Chidester went peacefully home with Lord October 18, 2022, following a 2-year battle with Pancreatic Cancer. Doug is survived by his partner, best friend and caregiver of 22 years, Carol Furgeson. He is survived by children, Michael (Nicky), Phillip (Kimberly), Christine (Matt), Jon. He is also survived by Michele, Don, John Furgeson; sister, Mary (Bob) Young; brothers, Roger, Bob (Mary), Ed (Marsha); brother-in-law, David Wood; sister-in-law, Ida; aunt, Catherine Major many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and special friends. Doug is predeceased by his parents, Merle and Phyllis Chidester, sister, Virginia Wood and brother, Gene. Doug was a member of the Hallstead Baptist Church. He was a Godly, giving, hardworking man with a project always ready to start. Doug loved his country, proudly serving in the U.S. Marine Corps after graduation. Over the year’s Doug’s ambitions gave him the opportunity to fulfill his dreams, he became an accomplished accordionist after years of weekly lessons. He loved to cook and bake, for nearly 40 years he was proud owner of Whitney Point Country Kitchen. Doug was a lineman for NYSEG for 23 years, village of Marathon employee for 11 years and bus driver for Whitney Point School District. Doug brought new life to the old Marathon Independent Building in Marathon, a village that he loved. He loved to fly high in his power parachute. Doug was a generous man, helping anyone in need, from buying air conditioners during a heat wave at Strong Senior Housing Center for anyone that wanted one, to helping homeless travelers passing through with a meal, a ride, or a bus ticket to their next destination. Doug will deeply be missed by all who knew him. By Doug’s request, there will be no funeral. A memorial and luncheon will be held at the Marathon American Legion 1034 Rte. 11 Marathon, NY October 30 at 2 pm. Expressions of sympathy in his name can be made to a charity of one’s choice. A very heartfelt thank you to 1- ROSS at Lourdes Hospital, the care you gave Doug will never be forgotten and to his nurse Olivia, you are his Guardian Angel.
