Betty J. Butler
Betty J. Butler, a devoted mother and grandmother whose life was a testament to selfless love and incredible strength, passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2026, surrounded by her family, who she so fiercely adored. Born on January 12, 1944 to the late Richard and Eleanor Brant. Betty dedicated her life to her children and grandchildren, creating a home that was a sanctuary of warmth, laughter, and unwavering support.
Betty is survived by her children, Rod (Lorie) Barton, Holly (Denny) Smith, Kelly (Robert) Nicholson, and Jolene (Jason) Gates, her grandchildren, Steve Hulbert, Rodney Barton, Rachelle Warner, Randy Barton, Tonya Welch, Devin Sherman, Whyatt Ashley, Dalton, Connor, and Ireland Gates; daughter in law, Annette Barton, 1 brother, Richard Brant, 8 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her son, Randy Barton, great granddaughter, Rylie Hulbert, her sisters, Doris & Dorothy Puels, her long-time companion, Donald Merritt, and her ex-husband and dear friend, Joseph Butler.
Betty is remembered as the matriarch of her family, and as a symbol of endurance and grace. Her life is proof that the best of us govern through love, and that joy is rooted in the bonds we keep. Her happiest moments were often simple ones, a good movie, a shared meal, and the comfort of being together. She offered steadiness when it was needed most, and warmth without condition. In small, consistent ways, she reminded those around her that all could be endured, and that they were not alone.
Betty placed the joy of others above her own, showing, without ever saying, what a life well lived can look like. Her remarkable life will forever be an inspiration, a true testament to the power of a mother’s love.
Life sometimes takes far more than we are ever prepared to give. Without you, our hearts are broken. Love You More
A celebration of Betty’s life will be held privately..
