Barbara Ann Decker, 81, of Whitney Point, NY died at Lourdes Hospital on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 after a brief illness. She was predeceased by her son, Paul Frederick Gerard, Jr. Barbara was the daughter of the late Dorothy Seeger Decker and David J. Decker. She is survived by her daughter, Anne Gerard Staton and husband, Steven; her son, Stephen Gerard and wife, Susan; and five grandchildren: Alanna and Leon Staton; Mitchell Gerard; and Adam and Benjamin Gerard. Barbara is also survived by her brother, David H. Decker and his wife, Marjorie, and several cousins: Nancy and Dick Warner, Carol and Ray Lewis, Jerry and Maria Eickwort, and June Walther. Two other cousins are predeceased: George Eickwort and Bobby Walther. There are numerous nieces and nephews.
All her life, Barbara was a strong, independent woman; she lived exuberantly and passionately. She enjoyed a long and varied professional career, including activist roles in local politics and education, working with non-profit organizations, authoring training programs, and designing financial database systems. For many years she was a member of the Whitney Point Rotary Club and Lisle Community Garden Club. She served on the Board of Directors for Family Planning of South Central New York and most recently was their Director of Finance. She volunteered for various animal care organizations and autism support groups.
A memorial and garden party celebrating her life will be held later this summer.
