Arthur James Miner, 73, of Marathon, passed away unexpectedly at home on Nov. 25, 2020. He was born in Cortland, NY on April 9, 1947 and predeceased by his parents James and Galdys Miner.
Art graduated from Dryden High School in 1965 and served in the US Army from 1966-1968 stationed in Korea. He worked at Don Hill & Son in Marathon for over 15 years as a mechanic. He then went on to be an independent contractor installing commercial playgrounds for Big Toy/Kompan traveling up and down the East Coast until he retired in 2012.
Anyone who knew Art knows he was a very kind, gentle, hardworking, devoted family man who would do anything for anyone. He treated everyone with respect, generosity, and had a calm about him that was pure goodness. He loved his family more than anything, and his favorite activity in retirement was being the #1 fan at sporting events of his grandchildren, not missing a game and filled with pride with their every play. He also loved being with his great-granddaughter, Karsynn, who had him wrapped around her little finger.
Art is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Susan Miner. Also, a son Dennis Miner (Rosie Fahrenz) of Harpursville, NY, a daughter, Denise Castellot of Marathon, NY, grandchildren Diego and Sam Castellot, Tessa and Tavish Miner, and a great granddaughter, Karsynn Blanchard. He is also survived by his brothers Ed Miner (Newfield), Leroy Miner (TN), a sister, Paula Bussell (ME), and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank members of MVAC and the Marathon Fire Dept. for their response and vigorous effort.
