Olga Ruth Hill Obituary

Olga Ruth Tracy Hill in her own words from her poem “The Spirit” authored around 1934…

In the twilight, in the moonlight, in the garden by the wall,

there a whippoorwill was singin’, “that is all, that is all.”

And in the early hours of July 13, 2018, as dawn approached, the birds began their morning songs and the flowers awoke to the brilliant first light, our dearest mother, Olga Ruth Tracy Hill embarked on one last stroll and took her place in the heavens among the stars and joined her loved ones who had gone before.

Mom lived and loved generously, always doing for others, always striving to learn new things, enjoying gardening, nature, reading, history, archaeology, music, art, crafts, and always putting family first.

Olga Ruth is predeceased by her husband of 57 years Charles W. (Bill) Hill, parents T. Rufus and Olga Sutphen Tracy, sister Esther Clara Tracy, brother Thomas R. Tracy and wife Inga, brother-in-law James R. Hill and wife Elva, sister-in-law Lorna Hogan and husband Fran, and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Olga Ruth’s love of life and family will be enthusiastically carried on by her children she so loved, son William (Bill) T. Hill and wife Joanne, daughter Donna Hill, daughter Julie Hill Goon and husband David, three grandchildren of whom she was so proud, Art Hill and wife Robin, Adam Hill and wife Ashley, and Jessica L. Goon and partner Chester Bennett, along with four dear great grandchildren Aden, Asher, Abigail and Logan as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Olga Ruth was a member of Grace Episcopal Church (Whitney Point), serving as a long-standing Sunday School Teacher, Lay Reader and Altar Guild member; a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary – Unit No. 974 (Whitney Point), and was very involved with the scholarship committee and poster committee for many years.  Olga Ruth also served as a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Tioughnioga Chapter No. 531, Otselic Rebekah Lodge No. 560, Town and Country Garden Club (Whitney Point), Roberson Center Garden Club, was a Den Mother for a local Cub Scout Troop as well as participating in other organizations, committees and events.

In celebration of Olga Ruth’s lovely and significant life, the family will host a Memorial Service on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at 1:00 – 2:00 pm to be held at Saving Grace Arts Center (formerly Grace Episcopal Church) 2654 Main Street, Whitney Point, NY.  A Graveside Service will immediately follow at Lisle Village Cemetery, 2163 River Street, Lisle, NY.  In lieu of flowers, Olga Ruth requested that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or a charity of your choice.

And one final thing…in remembrance of Olga Ruth, plant a seed, flower or herb and enjoy the wonderment and beauty of it, for Mother always took time to smell the flowers.  We Love You Mom.
