Mark J. Lukas

On Tuesday, October 16, 2018, Mark J Lukas, loving partner and stepfather of one, passed away at age 66.

Mark was born on November 25, 1951 in Binghamton, NY to Joseph and MaryRose (Lehman) Lukas. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served proudly, completing tours in Vietnam, until he was honorably discharged in 1970. After serving his country, Mark returned to Broome County, where he worked for several companies & was a successful entrepreneur. After an unsuccessful attempt at marriage, he began dating his life partner, Janet (Myers) Haukenberry in 1997. They raised one daughter, Angela, and one grandson, Thomas.

Mark had a passion for restoring old cars. He also loved reading. His favorite author was Louis L’amour. He really enjoyed Western movies featuring John Wayne. He was a proud animal lover, having several pets during his lifetime. He was also an avid oldies music lover and a collector of firearms. He was known for his quick wit and sound advice, as well as his determination and strong will.

Mark was preceded in death by his father, Joseph, and his mother, MaryRose. He is survived by his common law wife, Janet, his stepdaughter, Angela, grandson, Thomas, and cousin, Cindy. A private family viewing was held on Tuesday, October 16th, 2018 at the Sunset Memorial Home in Whitney Point. A memorial to life will be held at a later date by the family. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations be made to the American Heart Association in Mark’s honor. Arrangements are in the care of James Shara.
