Janet Haukenberry Obituary

On Saturday, December 28, 2019, Janet A (Myers) Haukenberry, loving sister, partner and mother of two, passed away at age 61.

Janet was born on June 16, 1958 in Binghamton, NY to Hugh and Marilyn (Davies) Myers. A rambunctious tomboy in her younger years, she graduated from Horseheads High School with a desire to pursue nursing. After her first marriage ended she began dating her life partner, Mark Lukas in 1997 and worked hard to better herself, as well as the lives of those around her. Together they raised one daughter, Angela, and one grandson, Thomas. Janet was preceded in death by her father, Hugh; her mother, Marilyn; and by her life partner, Mark. Janet is survived by siblings: Alan, Sherry, Geoff, Sandy, Wayne, Judy, Vickie, and Hugh II, as well as by her daughters, Angela and Amy; and grandsons, Thomas and Scott.

Janet had many passions in life. She loved anything having to do with Betty Boop and was an avid NASCAR racing fan, a love she developed after going to local races with her dad as a child. She was a proud animal lover, having several pets during her lifetime. She also loved oldies music, classic cars, and outdoor events like flea markets or car cruises. Janet had an artistic flair and often used it in creative ways. She knitted, crocheted, did needlepoint, as well as drawing and painting. She was known for her big heart and sense of humor - she was never afraid to be silly to bring a smile to someone's face. She was always willing to help those around her in need, with little thought of herself. She was the type of person who was always quick to celebrate the successes of those around her, but rarely took the time to celebrate herself. Janet was the sunshine in many people's lives, she will be missed dearly.

Service information can be found on Janet's Facebook page or by contacting her daughter, Angela. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for a dish to be brought to the celebration of life that will be taking place in Janet's honor later this month.
